Archival Art Panels
Westshore Artist Panels are made using a conservation quality support. It eliminates some of the issues with wood supports such as warping or breaking, expansion and contraction, acidity, and other issues such as SID and oil penetration that may occur when using wood as a support if not properly prepared (see more info below). The support is a thin archival aluminum composite material on both sides with a polyethylene core. With an 1/8" (3mm) thickness, it's thin and easy to transport yet extremely sturdy. It is also waterproof, which is great for plein air painting. These panels are conservator recommended (see reference links on the Technical Info page).
We offer 3 product lines with this support:
• Canvas Panels - Made with Fredrix double acrylic primed cotton canvas. Suitable for oil and acrylic paint.
• Gesso Panels - Coated with two coats of Golden White Gesso and one coat of Golden Matte
Medium, these panels have a smoother finish with a slight cross-hatch pattern. For oil and acrylic paint.
• Aluminum Composite Panels - For those looking for a quality support to customize your own panels by
applying your own grounds or to mount canvas, linen or paper, this is the best support you can use. This archival base will provide a safe acid-free support to adhere your materials to (this is used as the support for our canvas and gesso panels).
For info on some issues that can occur with wood or paper material supports see info under Sizing The Support in Golden's technical data sheet on Preparing A Painting Support
